THEY SAID anything could happen and it did when a Dennis Dominator double-deck bus with Gardner 6LXB engine covered 550 miles from Warrington to Villefranche, in the heart of Beaujolais country, in 31hr 35min to deliver a bottle of Vladivar vodka. It was competing with aeroplanes, helicopters and fast cars in Britain's crazy answer to the equally crazy Beaujolais race and finished 20th.
WHEELS, published by the United Road Transport Union, has appointed David Howell Secretary of Stage. He is playing the lead in a long-running Whitehall farce.
