SHROPSHIRE County Council has installed a special escape ramp to prevent hedgehogs from becoming trapped in a cattle grid on the A4117 at Clee Hill, near Ludlow. Two of these charming animals attended the inaugural civic ceremony, at which, I am led to believe, bread and milk was served instead of champagne.
The ramp is necessary because the county hedgehog training department has been unable to teach hedgehogs to open the gate provided for horses and other animals. The chief hedgehog training officer and his staff of 40 have been made redundant. NALGO's attitude promises to be distinctly prickly.
