LEX TILLOTSON Southampton has launched a 24-hour rescue and roadside recovery service which is available for all makes of vehicles, including light vans, medium trucks, heavy trucks and coaches.

The service, Multicare Rescue, is the latest to be provided under Lex Tillotson's Multicare programme.

It operates on a freephone telephone number which can be obtained by asking the operator for Freephone 9528. This number is restricted to a 50 mile radius from Southampton. Outside this area the company can be contacted on Southampton 867624.

A new two-ton trailer, fully equipped with winch, has been bought for light recovery to give the system greater flexibility.

The cost of Multicare Rescue varies between £20 an hour for vehicles up to 3.5 tons to £35 an hour for a 60-ton wrecker. Youngs Coachworks of South Shields and consipts of two door openings on the nearside, providing access to the front and rear bodyspace. A single door on the offside serves the centre position.

All three doors have roller shutters above 0.6m (2ft) deep dropsides.

The Mercedes Benz 1213, which is powered by a naturally aspirated 93kW (125bhp) 5.68 litre six-cylinder engine, was preferred to the larger, more powerful 1617 models.
