DAVID ANDREWS, chief executive of Land Rover-Leyland believes that technological innovation is the key to the future for the UK automotive industry.

Speaking in London, Mr Andrews explained: "We are in a different and uncertain ball game. The old rules are irrelevant and the new rules are still being written."

He said that the motor industry is now faced with an avalanche of new knowledge and capability relating to changes in materials, processes and products and every single aspect of industry can benefit from their application.

Mr Andrews claimed that the motor industry has a long and successful record of product innovation and went on to say that future success or failure will depend on the ability to apply these technological changes.
