Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Laura Hailstone

NIKKI KING, MD of Isuzu Truck (UK), has made changes to her business as a result of appearing on Channel 4’s Undercover Boss.

The show, which aired last week, saw King return to the shop loor at dealership level as ‘Pauline’ (pictured inset). After a day with a salesman at a new Isuzu dealership, King realised there is little incentive for sales people in her network to attract large leets. “It can take two to three years to get a big leet on board and the salesman gets hardly any commission, so why would he bother? We’ve introduced a £1,000 bonus for the irst vehicle a salesperson gets from a big leet customer,” she says.

King also discovered a perception that Isuzu has problems getting parts. “In the old days we had problems with parts, but we now have a great parts centre in Belgium,” she says. “We’ve written to all previous Isuzu customers to explain that we’ve rectiied this problem.” Meanwhile, a day with parts delivery girl Vicky inspired King to set up an Isuzu Training Academy offering basic management skills.

King has offered to be Vicky’s mentor.

She’s also recommended to her management team that they spend a day on the shop loor.
