• Iveco is to team up with Renault to develop a new cab: the replacement for Iveco's Daily will share cab pressings and components with the successor to Renault's Master and Messenger. The new vehicles, covering the 3.5-tonne to 6tonne range, will be introduced around 1998.
Iveco already supplies Renault with 2.5-litre Sofim diesel engines, an arrangement that is likely to continue, although the cab agreement is unlikely to lead to further cooperation at higher weightsIveco has recently completed the introduction of an entirely new range of LGVs.
The new agreement follows the demise of Renault's co-operative deal with Leyland Dafthe "Excel" project—to develop a lighter vehicle that would replace the Renault Trafic, possibly overlapping with this new range.
The cab will be produced by both Iveco and Renault plants, the Italian firm providing pressings for all versions. The French, Italian and Spanish plants will be geared up for production of around 120,000 vehicles annually.
