CARGOFAX, the Road Haulage Association's electronic information and load matching service, is being taken over by Reed Telepublishing, an associate of Cilfs parent company, Business Press International.
An improved load matching service, Cargofax International, is being developed by the system's owner and inventor, Simon Hossack, and will be in operation by the end of next month.
It will have access to terminals throughout Europe and will be open to anyone, although preferential rates will be available to trade associations and there will still be exclusive information for RHA members.
Existing Cargofax users will continue to pay the same subscription for the new service, and those companies which have subscribed to the service since it started will have free use until October 1, This is in recognition of their support.
Cargofax was launched at the RHA's last British conference, at Torquay in 1982, when directorgeneral Freddie Plaskett called for at least 250 members to join the system before it could be launched. That target has never been achieved, and was standing at only 150 this spring when he announced that it would have to be wound up.
