Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I HAVE read with interest the article on the report of the seminar of The Institute of Mechanical Engineers (CM, July 7) in Manchester, in which I note the comments made by Barry Jennings regarding the Institute and the need for it to attract more members.

Having spent the best part of the last 20 years in the Transport Industry, (with an own account employer). I would like to comment that there has been little encouragement by either the Institute or the employers to provide facilities, incentive, or time for the engineer who has qualified for his position by starting on the shop floor with sheer hard work and dedication; to join any professional body.

There must be hundreds of professional engineers who through this neglect are sitting back doing their tasks daily, who would welcome recognition but are not given the opportunity of obtaining it.
