Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Funnell, Radiator

WITH REGARD to "Antique home and road show" (Bird'seye view, CM, July 14) I am afraid there were a few discrepancies in the article.

Regarding the 1919 RAF-type Leyland, the article stated, "some 20 years of neglect followed until Bevan Funnell bought and restored it".

The truth is, the vehicle was purchased in full rally condition from Mr D Ellison for whom I work. It was purchased in pieces down to the last nut and bolt from D&D Diesels of Copthorne. Mr Ellison, his youngest son and myself reassembled the vehicle, painted it and manufactured many new components that were missing. The cab was completely rebuilt by County Joinery at Rye and the radiator was rebuilt by Marston Radiators at Hove.

The only part that was not quite correct was the body which was taken from a World War II Ford troop carrier. We looked for a better body for three years until the vehicle was sold to Bevan Funnell.

We had the vehicle for three years, attended many rallies and put a lot of work into it. So you can see why we get a bit uptight at Bevan Funnell saying they restored it. Recently in a local paper it was said they bought it as a heap of rust.
