A concessionary bus fares scheme for a ,ral area in Warwickshire is expected to ; approved this week and could be in )eration at the beginning of October.
Warwick Rural Council has reversed its 3cision to refuse the scheme despite arnings that "special difficulties" would be mid in planning such a scheme for a rural -ea.
The £8000 scheme has been worked out y a special sub-committee of the public :filth committee. The committee said that manse the district covered isolated villages, 3 well as urban areas, the value of bus asses would have to be varied.
A two-tier system has been arranged so -lat pensioners in urban areas will have passes for them to travel at half price up to an adult fare limit of 8p, and those in rural areas will have half fare up to 16p. The passes will be valid between 9 am and 3.30 pm and from 6 pm onwards from Mondays to Fridays and no weekend restrictions. Passes with similar fare limits, but no time restrictions, will be issued free to the blind and disabled. About 1395 pensioners and 80 blind or disabled people are involved.
The council is also being recommended to charge 25p for each pass following the Midland Red's concern over lost passes. The council's finance and general purposes committee has already approved the scheme.
