carrying capacity and would like your advice. Having collected all available manufacturers' literature I note that only one manufacturer states a "plated g.v.w." and that for all others only a g.v.w. is given.
Additionally one manufacturer lengthens the chassis of its 3-tanner, puts on bigger tyres and calls it a 4-tonner. Another likewise upgrades its 3-tonner to a 4-tanner by increasing wheel and tyre size. But is the Minister of Transport going to agree to these modifications? Or will I just have to wait and see?
AWe consider you need have no worries
that a new vehicle you buy now for a particular gross weight will not be plated for this figure when the time comes for it to be tested. In many cases tyre and wheel sizes are the main considerations in limiting weight, and chassis suspensions and axles are often designed for higher figures than those applicable to the tyres fitted.
