rr HE first of a new model of Leyland

Badger tractive unit to be built was an important exhibit on the stand of Gilbraith Commercials Ltd., of Accrington, at the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show this week. This new version of the low-weight Badger carries the designation 16LBT.19R and is plated for operation at 24 tons gross train weight in standard form or 26 tons g.t.w. when a two-speed rear axle is fitted.

The 16LBT.19R is an extension to the Badger range and has a wheelbase of 9ft 61n with front and rear axles plated for 5.5 tons and 10 tons respectively. The model has the Ergomatic tilt cab with full luxury trim and apart from the wheelbase, rating and two-speed axle in the case of the 26-ton model, the specification is the same as the Badger I 6LBT.17R tractive unit. The engine is a Leyland 0.600 146 b.h.p.-gross diesel and the gearbox a six-speed overdrive unit. Standard tyres are 10.00-20 radials.

Among other interesting exhibits at the Lancashire Show were a Scammell Trunker II twin-steer tractive unit which was plated for 35 tons g.t.w. and two Atkinson 30/32ton tractive units with Gardner 6LXB engines, one coupled to a 40ft platform trailer, the other to a powder tanker.
