Revealed at a Recent Southern Area Sitting AT the Dorchester sitting of the Southern Area Traffic Commissioners recently the application of Hants and Dorset Motor Services, Ltd., to operate a stage-carriage service between Fareham and Lee-on-Solent was opposed by Moor's Motor Service. It was explained that the service was commenced at the beginning of the year at the request of the Southern Railway Co., which company's train service between Parch= and Lee has been discontinued. The buses connected with all the trains at Fareham and took
laggage as well as light merchandise, for which purpose the vehicles were specially adapted.
In January 1,930 passengers were carried and in the succeeding months this figure increased as follows :—February, 2,304; March, 2,389; April, 2,390; May, 3,518 ; June, 3,554.
The objection of Moor's Motor Ser
vice was to the picking up of passengers at Stubbington at the same ,'time as the Moor buses called there. The latter service was declared to have carried in January 12,512 passengers, the subsequent figures being :—February, 10,650; March, 11,960; April, 13,712; May, 14,277. Traffic returns for the first six months of last year were required to be submitted to the Commissioners. The importance a possessing accurate returns of past working is becoming evident from procedure at the various sittings.
