is a well-established vehicle that has a good reputation with operators. Its GRP cab helps keep weight to a minimum on what is an inherently heavy vehicle; with two driven and two steering axles it is not only a heavy truck but a complicated one.
Maintenance on all eight-wheelers is quite involved and lengthy. There are three levels of service on the ERF. Standard service times are: A, 3.3 hours; B, 6.7 hours; and C. 10.9 hours, with an extra 0.3 hours for an antifreeze change every other year.
With a tipper used for off-road work an A service should be carried out every 10,000km. The B service is carried out every six months and a C once a year.
We watched as ERE service department litter Mick Kristensen carried out a B service on a vehicle from the manufacturer's demonstration fleet. It had clocked up nearly 106,000km with a wide variety of operators.
The driveline is the well tried Cummins/Eaton/Rockwell combination. Power is provided by an L10 325, which is transmitted through a Twin Splitter gearbox to a Rockwell SSHD tandem axle set.
