• Truck drivers who take a job in another EC country will no longer have to swap their UK driving licences. EC transport ministers have agreed that all member states should recognise each other's driving licences.
They have also decided in principle that the ages for licences should be the same throughout the Community and that qualifying ages will depend on the type of vehicles being driven. Details have still to be worked out.
Plans to harmonise fuel tax and vehicle excise duty failed to make much headway at last
