• Nicholas and Philip Lane, former directors of Retford-based Ken Lane Transport, have withdrawn a bid for a new 0-licence in their own name.
In 1986 Ken Lane Transport had its licence revoked: it was granted a fresh licence for 12 months only following convictions for vehicle excise licence offences. A further licence revocation in May 1988 followed various convictions, including vehicle excise duty offences (CM 7-13 April/26 May-1 June 1988). That decision was upheld by the Transport Tribunal, which dismissed an appeal by the company in November 1988.
The company sought a fresh licence for 22 vehicles and trailers in April 1989, but that application was refused by Eastern Licensing Authority Brigadier Compton Boyd on financial grounds (CM 16-22 March/20-26 April 1989).
In November Nicholas and Philip Lane, trading as Lane Brothers, lodged an application for a new international licence for five vehicles and seven trailers. That application was due to be considered by the LA at a Nottingham public inquiry. Half an hour before it was due to start the Traffic Area Office was notified that the brothers did not intend to proceed.
