• Job prospects in the road transport industry will deteriorate further, according to Manpower's latest quarterly employment survey.
It reveals that 14% of UK operators expect to reduce their workforces between now and the end of June.
Only 11% of companies say they will recruit staff; recruitment overall will fall by 3% before seasonal factors are taken into account.
This contrasts sharply with an overall increase of 7% for the same period last year.
Prospects are gloomiest in East Anglia, South Wales and the East Midlands.
In Scotland, however, the situation is brighter with 14% of employers predicting staff increases.
