Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mintex Don is introducing a "second generation" of non-asbestos brake linings. Six types of material are designed to suit various brake designs.

Don 7106 and Mintex M1391 is designed for trucks and buses with S cam brakes; Don 7109/M1387 for other truck cam brakes; Don 7114/M1392 for trucks with twin-wedge and Duplex brakes; Don 7115 is for trucks and touring buses with Simplex brakes; Don 7116/M1401 is designed for trailers with Simplex brakes and Don 7119/M1397 has been developed for city buses with Simplex brakes.

After two years of field trials Mintex Don claims that the new range gives a longer service life than the first generation of non-asbestos linings. It is said to abrade brake drums less.

At a working temperature of 400°C the lining wear factor for the new materials is said to range from 1.2 to 2.0: Don 242 scores 3.5 on the same scale. Friction coefficients on the new materials are reported to be generally superior to asbestos linings.
