• Fortlicr to the article published in Commercial Motor, 17 January, we are writing to confirm that we also are having trouble obtaining journey permits.

As well as operating a livestock haulage business, we offer an express collection service for a variety of customers in industry. We have one customer who would be prepared to give us return loads from Italy but we are unable to get the first permits needed to start an allocation.

We applied to IRFO last year for Italian permits and were told none was available. We are a small firm and do not have the resources available to buy our way into the system. However, despite our size, because of the nature of our outward loads we travel extensively throughout Europe. If we had permits, particularly for Italy and Spain, our ability to reload our livestock vehicles and use our express vehicles for existing and new customers would be greatly improved.

We would be very interested to hear from any improvements which may result from representation to the authorities.
