HAZCHEM GUIDE • The Health and Safety Executive has published a guide this week to yet another set of new Hazchem regulations, the Road Traffic (Carriage of Dangerous Substances in Packages etc) Regulations 1986. The new rules will be known as the PGR regulations.

When the new PGR regs come into force, on 6 April, they will lay down a set of safeguards for the transportation by road of any dangerous substances in a container — such as a skip, drum, carbuoy, bottle or carton.

Regulation 7, which sets out the driver training requirements, comes into force next year to allow hauliers enough time, to re-train their drivers. Drivers, however, will still need to know their emergency responsibilities from 6 April this year.

The guide is available from HMSO or from large booksellers, priced at 23 (ISBN 0 11 883997).

For further information see Commercial Motor's special guide to the new PGR regulations, published in this week's issue. Further copies of the pocket-sized guide are available at 50p each.
