Thompson joined his present company, Jessups, in September 1963 from a post with British Electric Traction. He was assistant to the chairman initially, before he founded Jessups (Vehicle Contracts) Ltd in 1969. He became director and general manager in July 1975, and then a main board director of Jessups plc in November 1985.
Chairing the BVRLA is a two-year stint and Thompson took over from Terry Ward, the previous chairman, on March 24. Thompson has been involved in various BVRLA committees for the past 13 years.
