The T.R.T.A. do not, says the report, hold the opinion that the railways are obsolete, being well aware that heavy industry is largely dependent on their services for the delivery of raw material and finished goods. The Association welcome the B.T.C.'s modernization schemes, asking only that the Commission should proceed with their plans with the greatest possible dispatch and, in the meantime, not blame C-vehicle operators for carrying their own goods in their own vehicles if in their sober judgment it is in their best interests to do so."
The London and Home Counties Division of the T.R.T.A. report a satisfactory increase in membership in the early part of 1957-58. Membership at December 31 was a record.
