• BIPAVER, the international association for tyre retreaders, is calling for a 1.6mm minimum tread depth on truck tyres to bring them into line with cars.
It also wants an international standard for retreading to be legally enforceable.
The EC wants more retreaded tyres to be used on cars to reduce the scrap tyre problem, so it may look favourably on such proposals.
