Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Cummins Engine Company in Britain has dismissed any suggestion that its popular L10

straight-six engine is to be stretched to more than 11 litres.

It has been reported that the 10-litre diesel would be taken to 11.3 or 11.7 litres for the next round of US particulate level regs in 1994. But Cummins' UK public relations manager Paul Carter says there are no plans to increase the L10's capacity, although its power rating will be stepped up.

A 2 6 1 kW (350hp) version of the L10 fitted with Cummins' CELECT electronic fuel management system is expected to be launched in the UK before the end of this year. US truck builders are preparing for an L10365E CELECT engine.

There are no plans to offer a 365E in the UK, but an LIO with a rating of more than 261kW could yet be developed for UK operations. Some operators might shy away from a 261kW-plus high-power 10-litre engine but Iveco is already fitting a 276kW (370hp) version of its 9.5-litre engine in the latest EuroTech tractor (CM 7-13 May).
