Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Isn't it just typical of the French to try to get the right PR image after their horrendous behaviour during the blockades?

I'm referring, of course, to the attempt by the Syndicat de la Co-ordination de Chauffeurs et Professionels de la Route (CM 27 August-2 September) to ask for a single European LGV driving licence throughout the EC,

And what will that do, I ask? "Rien," I'm forced to reply.

Why are they doing it then? It has to be to con us into believing they had a legitimate reason for their behaviour, when everybody knows they did not.

David Higginbottom from the United Road Transport Union has it dead right — we won't stop future behaviour like this by issuing a new bit of paper.

What the French need most is the strong arm of the law. Only when their police present some kind of resolve will potential

blockaders consider an end to this kind of atrocious behaviour.

Daniel Lee, London 8E11.
