Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I have read your article stating that Unit 91 has come to the end of the road (CM 20-26 August). As the wife of Mike Pickering, who has spent the past two-and-a-half years trying to get Unit started, this shocks and saddens me.

My husband has been accused of being in a fantasy world, and of being controversial. The only fantasy world he lives in is believing that people are as honest as himself.

Against my wishes, at times, he continued to help other people, believe in them and trust them — and this was his downfall. My children and I have lost a great deal through Unit. My husband has constantly been on call night and day trying to help people.

I was left a substantial amount of money. This has gone, being the only means of support we had while Michael was working for the causes of Unit.

The problem he came up against was lack of integrity. The most honest man I know had only the small haulier and ownerdriver at heart. I've seen Michael over the past two-and-a-half years, tricked, used and abused.

Mistakes have been made as in all young companies. Unit started with little or no funds, but with determination, dedication and a will for it to survive, it progressed. Michael's total belief was, and still is, Unit.

Michael has been told he no longer has anything to do with Unit. This is a hard pill to swallow for a man who was willing to give all. Helen Pickering, Loughborough, Leics.
