Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A further 100 jobs are to be cut at Iveco Ford Trucks' Langley production plant this month, as the manufacturer predicts that the market will hit "an all time low" this year.

It is seeking voluntary redundancies from hourly paid nonmanagement staff as a cost-cutting measure to combat the haulage recession.

IFT hopes the cuts, which will bring the Langley workforce down to just over 800, will dim inate the need to stop production during slow periods. Last year Langley had 90 'down days', when no trucks were produced.

Earlier this year IFT cut its workforce at Langley by asking 93 hourly paid and 22 managerial staff to take voluntary redundancy or early retirement.

It had hoped to keep the remaining workforce, but truck registrations over 3.5 tonnes fell by 12% in the first seven months of this year.
