• Ratby-based dealer Alan Wilson has identified the foreignbuilt vehicle he is to launch at Expo Coach '92 this October — it is a dual-purpose coach built by American builder Blue Bird (CM 9-15 April).
The 9-12m body-on-chassis unit, built entirely by Blue Bird, is based on the Q Bus which has been on sale in the US for two years. It will cost less than Z65,000 and will be available with either a B or C Series Cummins engine, Allison automatic transmission and ABS as
standard. The coach on show at Castle Donnington this October will also have air conditioning.
Wilson will use the unit to diversify out of the secondhand PCV market. He believes the "extremely competitive price" will satisfy the pent up UK demand for an affordable class of vehicle. He points out that it is built by a large company, which has the resources to spend on vehicle development. Blue Bird, based in the Fort Valley, Georgia, builds about 15,000 units a year, he says.
