• The minibus body boom continues with the launch of yet another modular body range — the Routernaker — from Dormobile of Folkestone.
The Routemaker body will be available as a 21-seater on the four-tonne GVW Freight Rover Sherpa, and in 21or 25-seater versions on the lyeco Ford Daily 49.10 Dodge 50 Series and Mercedes T2 range, A 33-seat version will also be available for the 7.5tonne G'VW Mercedes 811D and Dodge S75 chassis.
The Routemaker is based on an all-welded tubular steel subframe with a glass-reinforced plastic roof, and front and rear sections. External side panels are aluminium, and the resinbonded floor can be finished with either Altro or Treadmaster coverings.
Dormobile can supply the Routemaker with a variety of interior finishes, from basic stage carriage to full luxury coach specification with highback seats, luggage racks and a dropwell boot. The saloon can be fitted with an underfloor combustion heater.
All Routemakers come with a hinged driver's door and sig nailing window and a two-leaf power-operated nearside door as standard. A hinged offside rear door can also be fitted.
Interior height is 1,950mm, and the width across the carpet-trimmed seating area is 2,065mm.
The first 21-seater model based on the 4,050kg Freight Rover Sherpa chassis scuttle has already been built; Dormobile will show the new body on a Sherpa and a 49.10 Turbo Daily mini-bus at the Bus and Coach Council's exhibition in October.
Prices for the Routemaker range will depend on customer options, but Dormobile quotes a £12,565 price tag for the Sherpa-based model in stage carriage specification with soft trim seats. The launch of the Routemaker comes just a week after the arrival of Dormobile's minibus body range based on the Ford Transit.
