Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A TANDEM to tri-axle semitrailer conversion kit for 38tonne operation is now available from Al International Motor Engineering of Pillar Box Corner, Maldon, Essex.

The air-suspended addition axle is mounted ahead of the existing running gear, which does not need to be disturbed according to Al.

Neway suspension components are used although control of the air pressure in the bags is effected through an SAB valve system.

A load-sensing valve monitors the leaf spring deflection, with pressure in the air bags being regulated to apportion the total bogie load equally between the three axles.

The air-suspended axle can be raised when running light so that tyre scrub is reduced and manoeuvrability is easier.

The tare weight goes up by approximately one tonne when the third axle is fitted with twin wheels and tyres, while the plated gross trailer weight is increased, typically, from 29.5 to 32.5 tonnes.

Al claims that the approximate conversion cost is £2,850 for a trailer with constant depth main rails.
