THE SOUTH-WEST Water Authority has taken delivery of a 9,092 litre (2,000gal) vacuum tanker with a four-wheel tankertrailer of similar capacity from Whale Tankers.
It is built on a Leyland Constructor 24.21 24-tonne 6x4 chassis and is equipped with a -Lister three-cylinder ST3 diesel engine which powers a Hammond 500 exhauster compressor.
Both the towing tanker and its trailer, which is mounted on an Overlander drawbar-type chas sis, are served by the same interlinked vacuum system.
A vacuum/pressure line to the trailer is controlled by a divertor valve on the towing tanker, but the trailer's own cut-off valve will shut off the vacuum automatically when full. A pneumatically-operated rear discharge valve, controlled from the cab, is provided for land spreading.
Each tank has a 457mm (18in) quick release access manhole or gravity-filling aperture.
Whale has also fulfilled an order by supplying plant hire specialists GoPlant with two medium Jetvac combinations, which have 10cm (4in) pneumatically-assisted arms suitable for gully emptying or jetting duties.
The two 6,819 litre (1,500gal) combinations were specified with rear-mounted controls to allow jetting operations to be controlled by the operator at the rear. Each is fitted with an Aqua Hydraulics AH30 jetting pump delivering 127 litres/min at 117bar (28gal/min at 1,700psi).
