Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ernest Holmes (Plant Hire) Ltd., 43 Berkeley Street, Birmingham I, are the sole importers and distributors of Fiat OM fork-lift trucks. They have a network of agents covering the UK. Fiats are large exporters, particularly in Europe, and enjoy a reputation for producing a sturdy and reliable truck which has been rigorously tested.

Listing the Fiat models in lifting capacities, there is the E6 battery-electric which lifts 1,320 lb. with a duplex mast and 1,100 lb. with triplex mast; and four models of 2,645 lb. capacity, petrol (BM 12), diesel (DM 12) and electric (E 12 or E 12-3r). The latter model is of somewhat lighter construction. Petrol or diesel versions (BM 15 and DM 15) with capacities of 3,3001b. are built, and there are three trucks with 4,400 lb. capacities— RIM 20, DIM 20 and E 20, petrol, diesel and electric powered, respectively. Proceeding up the scale we have the BIM 25 (petrol) and DIM 25 (diesel), each lifting 5,500 1b., and the range ends with two trucks of 6,600 lb. capacity, DIM 30 (diesel) and E 30 (electric). Altogether, a very useful range of lightand mediumweight trucks.

The British agents of Ernest Wagner Apparatebau. Reutlingen, are W. K. Bird and Co. Ltd., Beech Avenue, Harrogate. Under the trade name EWAR, Wagner produces a range of fork-trucks with capacities of 2,200 to 4,400 lb. and varying lifting capabilities. The Loadmaster "F ", with 3,307 lb. capacity and 190 in. lift, sells for around £2,400. The Ewar Magaziner is a useful electric warehouse truck with a reaching height of more than 15 ft. It can be driven safely in all elevated positions and, if required, can be used as a standard fork-lift truck for stacking palletized loads.

The Ewar Pick-A-Back, designed to accompany the vehicle or trailer to which it lifts itself by its own power from the ground, should have many applications and could greatly speed up collections and deliveries. Its batteries are recharged by the parent vehicle's dynamo. The Pick-A-Back will lift 2,200 lb. and costs approximately £1,003.

I was interested to !earn from the importers of Rilla fgrk-lift trucks, Enter Equipment Engineering Services Ltd.. Enser Buildings, Wolverhampton New Road, Oldbury, Birmingham, that the Rilla trucks they are importing from Bulgaria are mass-produced for all Communist-bloc countries in a factor% whose output is said to be greater than any similar plant in Europe, including Britain and Germany! Last year the factory turned out 14,000 pieces of trucking, including fork-lift trucks, sideloaders, platform trucks, reach trucks, stackers and mobile tugs.

Currently, Enter Equipment are introducing four battery-electric fork-lift trucks, Model EV 676, with 2,2001b. capacity at 20 in. I.e., and EV 701, with

400 lb. capacity at 19.5 in. 1.c. EV 732 Is 6,620 lb. at 20 in. 1.c. and a sideader, EV 451. has 2,240 lb. capacity.

W. C. Youngman Ltd., Manor Royal, rawley. Sussex, are sole UK concessionres for the internationally famous ixby fork-lift trucks. These are -ench-built, and the Master series of acks, of 25 cwt.. 2 tons and 2 tons 5 cwt. pacity. were handsomely styled by a ading industrial design unit. All three odds have a standard lift height of ft. 6 in., and power can be petrol, esel or LP Gas.

Another Saxby range of electric fork acks uses the series names Miniwar, axiwar and Manuwar. The Miniwar, 1-ton capacity reach truck, has a lift ight up to 134 in. The Maxiwar models 22 cwt., 30 cwt. and 2 tons capacity :re designed following extensive user -operation, and among many interesting atures are high lifting and lowering eeds (up to 81 ft./min.). The Manuwarries trucks are primarily intended for ves or warehouse use and minimum rnensions facilitate manceuvrability in nfined spaces.

Youngman also market the Swedish Robur hydraulic fork-truck with load capacities from 1,200 to 2,400 kg.

German design is again represented by the products of H. Jungheinrick and Co., Maschinenfabrik, Hamburg, 48, for whom Jewsbury's Mechanical Handling Ltd., Southall House, Southall Street, Manchester. are agents. The three-wheel Ameise Retrak, with a transverse seat, is specially suited to warehouse operations and can lift up to 2.750 lb. It is claimed that an aisle width as little as l in. more than the theoretical minimum aisle width is sufficient for a trained driver.

Four-wheeled Ameise Retrak models with capacities of 2,200 to 4,400 lb. at 24 in. l.c. are available with a variety of special-purpose attachments, such as bale clamps, paper-reel clamps, and casedgoods clamps, and particular care has been taken in all designs for the personal safety of the operator. Battery, diesel or LPG motive' power is optional equipment on many models.

Prices of Ameise three-wheeled electric reach trucks are from £1,490 to £2,146 and four-wheeled electric reach trucks cost from £1,930 to £2,642.

Fred Myers Ltd., Vale Road. Windsor,

are agents for li yster and HysterRansomcs equipment. As the Hyster fork-lift designs originate in Holland, and some Dutch-built equipment is imported, (though the Hyster range is mainly produced in Scotland) the make is included in this section. (The Hyster-Ransome range is manufactured by Ransomes Sims and Jefferies at Ipswich.) The Hyster range includes fork-lift trucks, mobile cranes and straddle carriers with capacities from 2,000 to 60.000 lb. The Space Saver range. with capacities from 2,000 to 10.000 lb. is fitted with cushion (soft solid) rubber tyres and these models are for use in confined areas on relatively smooth ground. Some of these models may be had with petrol, diesel or LP Gas power.

The Challenger series extends from 2,000 to 46,000 lb. capacity, most being available with alternative power sources.

The Hyster-Ransomes range consists of fork-lift -trucks, reach trucks, platform trucks and towing tractors, all battery electric powered. The fork-lift trucks have capacities from 1.000 to 7,000 lb.

Prices of Nijmegen-built standard Hyster fork-lift trucks range from £1,694 for a 2,000 lb.-capacity petrol-engined model to £5,487 for a 12,0001K-capacity LPG or diesel-powered machine. HysterRansomes battery electric fork-lift trucks cost from £1,020 for a 1.000 lb.-capacity model (less batteries) to £2.260 for a 7,000 lb.-capacity truck.

Hi-Reach Trucks Ltd., 176 Fletchampstead Highway. Coventry. are UK distributors for the Swedish ASEA range of light-weight fork-lift and stacking trucks. Under the JIMMY Junior trade mark two pedestrian-controlled stackers, and a powered pallet truck are available. The pallet truck. model FIG. has a capacity of 2,600 lb. at 24 in. I.e., and has a lift height of 54 in. Power is from a 24v. series-wound motor of 1-64 h.p. and weight, inclusive of batteries. is 880 lb.

The Stackers, HSG 800 and HSG 1000 carry respectively 1.800 lb. at 16 in. I.e. and 2.200 lb. at 24 in. I.e. to heights up to 130 in.
