TRACTIVE units with built-in fork-lifts I are likely to be on sale next year. I-1BR Metal Industries Ltd., of Sunbury-onThames, told The Commercial Motor last week that the testing and development programme for the equipment (exhibited at Earls Court last year by Spurling Motor Bodies) is nearly complete, and HBR expects to start limited production early in 1966.
Testing so far has been carried out on a Bedford TIC 10-ton tractive unit fitted with the patented fork-lift, and 1-IBR reports that it has been very successful— to the point where other chassis manufacturers are being approached concerning the technical details of applying this equipment to their current tractive unit models.
In addition to interest shown by opera tors and the trade in the UK, there have been inquiries from abroad, particularly from areas where a dual-purpose vehicle has obvious advantages. The object is, of course, to provide operators with a selfcontained hauling/handling unit.
