THE 90 Leyland Atlante,ans for Oporto Tramways Services, whose order was announced last week, will have an 18 ft. 6 in. wheelbase and will be equipped with the 165 b.h.p. 0.680 engine to provide the extra power for tackling Oporto's hilly streets, where gradients of 1 in 5 are encountered.
Another non-standard feature will be the fitting of front-mounted radiators with twin motor-driven fans to aid cooling of the rear-mounted engine in high summer temperatures. Both the Atlanteans (whose c.k.d. chassis will have locally built Martins and Caetano bodywork mounted) and the 45 Worldmasters ordered by Oporto will have four-speed Pneumo-Cyclic gearboxes, air pressure brakes and exhaust brakes.
