ATOTAL of £2-5m. is to be spent by ENV Engineering Co. Ltd. and Eaton Axles Ltd. on an expansion programme which, it is claimed, will make them the largest independent producer of truck axles and transmissions in the UK.
Over a million pounds is to be spent at the Walkden. Manchester. plant taken over from Westinghouse earlier this year. where the transmission development will be centred, while axle output is to be trebled at Aycliffe, Co. Durham, by the spending of £1-5m. there.
The group has also acquired a further stake in the Spanish company Eaton lberica, and is investigating prospects in Turkey.
