Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• connection with a reference which we made, on page 831 of our issue dated July 23rd, to new services operating from the London station of London Coastal Coaches, Ltd., it is announced that arrangements have been completed between this company and the United Automobile Services, Ltd., and are now in operation, for through bookings from the Northumberland district to any part of the south country.

This development marks another stage in the increased activities of United Automobile, Services, Ltd., which' commenced operations in east Northumberland in 1920. Services were gradually augmented, new routes opened, and generally better facilities provided until now • the company's network of local and long-distance services covers the whole of the county, linking its important towns with other parts.

Three different routes are provided between Newcastle and Edinburgh, one via Wooier and Coldstream, one via the coast route to Berwick, and the third via Jedburgh. There is now a direct Whitley Bay-Glasgow service, and there are services to Scarborough and Don caster. Under the new arrangement United Automobile Services, Ltd., hooks passengers to London by the coaches of Messrs. Orange Bros., of Bedlington, with through tickets available for travel by other coaches.

Increased Revenue at Birkenhead.

During the World Jamboree at Arrowe Park, Birkenhead, from July .22nd to August 13th, the receipts of the Birkenhead municipal motorbuses and tramcars were nearly double those of the same period of last year. The passengers carried totalled 2,370,783, as compared with 1,314,486 for that period of the previous year. The receipts were £22,226, as against 111,471 last year. The extra expense incurred by the corporation in borrowing additional buses to deal with tho traffic will have to be offset against the increased receipts.

A Dangerous Cliff-side Road.

Norfolk County Council has decided to apply to the Ministry of Transport for an order prohibiting the use by all heavy motor traffic of the old road past the hotel at Overstrand. A recent fall of land has brought the cliff edge close to the roadway.
