Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Job prospects in the transport and distribution industry remain steady, but employers are less optimistic about taking on new staff than they were a year ago, according to a new survey.

Conducted by employment agency Manpower, the poll of more than 2,000 employers from a range of industries shows that 27% of employers in the transport and distribution sector expect to recruit more staff over the next three months. Only 9% of companies said they would be decreasing employment while the remainder expect no change in staffing levels.

However, the mood is less buoyant than the same time last year when 32% of companies talked of boosting employment. Overall, this latest survey suggests employers in the transport and distribution industry are slightly less optimistic about job prospects than the all-industry average.

The survey finds greatest optimism within the retail, leisure and clothing manufacturing sectors. Across all industries, employers in the East Midlands, West Country and Home Counties are most optimistic about job prospects,
