• Euro MPs and the family of jailed Essex driver Mickey Chinnick have appealed to the Turkish authorities for his early release because he needs urgent medical attention.
Chinnick, locked up in a Turkish prison since 1993 after being found guilty of drug smuggling, has a history of cancer problems and has been told he needs an operation on his prostate gland.
Now MEP for North Yorkshire. Edward McMillan-Scott has written to the Turkish Embassy in London asking for his immediate release and final year of his sentence to be scrapped.
Chinnick, who has maintained his innocence throughout, has been suffering increasing pain recently and his fiancee Danneke Neale says she is wor ried if he has the operation in Turkey.
"We don't want him butchered out there but he has to have the operation," she adds.
Neale is still trying to raise the £4,500 Chinnick needs to pay his fine, and is appealing for donations.
