Ensure that: • Vehicles and pedestrians are kept safely apart; • Traffic routes are free of obstructions; • All vehicles are regularly maintained; • Drivers carry out basic safety checks before using vehicles; • Loading and unloading is carried out on flat, firm ground and that vehicles are appropriately stabilised;
• A clear system of penalties is enforced when safe working practices are ignored;
• Reversing manoeuvres are kept to a minimum;
• Workshop floors are kept free of obstructions and materials which might cause people to slip or fall; • Exposure to harmful substances such as paint, cleaning solvents, body fillers and used engine oils is prevented or controlled; • Employees are discouraged from rushing to complete their work on time;
• Excessive working time is avoided to minimise the risk of fatigue.
