Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

About time too, T&G

Gm he Transport & General Workers Union Claim to Reflect Mood' ran the headline in last week's Commercial Motor.

According to the story, the union is about to decide to push for higher wages. My first reaction to this is, about time too.

I'm a driver working for what is often described in your magazine as one of the more reputable firms. I work a 42-hour week with odd bits of overtime, and for what? £142 a week.

This is barely enough for a single man to live on, let alone a man with a family. Companies blame pressure in the market place on the fact that they have to keep wages low. Many drivers are working for less than the proposed minimum wage of £4 per hour and I would say to the T&G it's time to get every driver in the country to strike for one day for decent wages. Only if this happens will employers take note of how the workers feel and will UK drivers come close to the wages enjoyed by our EU colleagues. Name and address supplied.
