Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A new optical tachometer providing a digital read-out has been introduced by Graham and White Instruments.

The speed Of shafts is obtained by a non-contact technique and imposes no load on the rotating component. The instrument projects a beam of light onto the rotating surface. The reflected light pulses, from suitable tape or paint, are sent back to the instrument and converted into a digital reading.

Power is derived from four 1.5 Volt batteries. The measuring range of the D-20 is from 100 to 20,000 rpm. Price: £125.

Available from: Graham and White Instruments Ltd, 135 Hatfield Road, St Albans, Harts, AU 4LZ.
