The book is divided into two parts: the first is a guide to the selection of driver candidates with the help of tests compiled by the Department of Occupational Psychology, Birkbeck College, University of London, in collaboration with BlTA, and medical advisors, and the second, drawn from specialist knowledge, deals fully with developing the skills of the qualifying trainee. A training programme has been devised by a panel of experts in materials handling which includes the use of forklift trucks, to ensure that drivers reach full proficiency.
