• For the first time since it entered the commercial vehicle market in 1918, Chevrolet of America will now be marketing a full range of commercial vehicles. The addition of new heavy-duty tractive units—the 90 Series—will give this division of General Motors coverage of the market from light vans to prime movers as large as any now commonly used in America on normal haulage.
The Chevrolet 90 Series includes twoand three-axle chassis for gross weights solo up to 22.5 tons and gross combination weights up to 33.2 tons. There are 22 different models on 15 wheelbases ranging from 9ft 2in. to 19ft 7in. and three basic cab types are offered —long and short normal control in steel and a light-alloy forward-control tilt cab.
Three basic engines are used in the range, Detroit Diesel V6 and V8 two-stroke diesels of 426 cu.in. (7.0 litre) and 568 min. (9.3 litre) displacement and a Cummins six-in-line of 855 cu.in. (14.0 litre) capacity. Using different injectors for the Detroit Diesel units and regulating the fuel flow, plus turbocharging for the Cummins gives nine different ratings to the three basic engines—from 218 to 335 bhp.
A full range of transmissions with from five to 20 gears is available together with various rear axles including singleand two-speed single axles and singleand three-speed ta ndems.
