on figures

• Johnson Bros, of Saughall Massie, near Liverpool, applied to vary an A licence, in Liverpool last week, by converting a 4-ton flat into art 8-ton artic. Objections were entered by H. H. Crutchley Ltd.. of Birkenhead, and H. Smethurst, of Rock Ferry. The North Western deputy LA, Mr. G. Newman, adjourned the case so that the applicant could produce his figures.

Mr. M. W. Johnson, the applicant, said that he wanted to increase the size of the vehicle as this would be more suitable to his existing customers. Mr. J. S. Lawton, for the two objectors. asked where these customers were and why they were not giving evidence of their need. Mr. Lawton pointed out that this variation meant a substantial increase in the capacity of the vehicle in question. Mr. Johnson said that the weekly turnover for the flat vehicle was £70; he agreed that this figure would be doubled if the variation was granted.

The deputy LA pointed out that when such an increase is sought there is a need for figures to be produced.
