• The Ministry of Transport has confirmed an Order made by Northumberland County Council restricting to three tons the weight of vehicles using certain country roads in Northumberland. The county surveyor said that roads not built for heavy traffic were being used by lorries taking short cuts. Some roads were having to be reconstructed because of the damage caused. The restriction does not apply to school buses or vehicles carrying equipment to farms.
