Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The courier service of Security Express Ltd. which began operating in June this year is proving an immense success, according to a spokesman for the company. The overnight parcels delivery service is growing each week and is capturing a great deal of long-distance parcels traffic, CM was told this week.

The company has divorced the courier service from its normal cash collection and delivery division. It is understood that parcels deliveries will not be subsidized by the company's other services.

Security Express, using its existing depots throughout the country, has established two major changeover points, one at Birmingham and the other at Manchester. Parcels collected in London one day are delivered in Glasgow the next day. having been transported to the Manchester depot in the late evening.

The Birmingham depot groups all traffic for the southern part of the country and goods dispatched from Glasgow having passed through Manchester and Birmingham can be delivered in the West Country 24 hours later. "We have already a large number of contract customers", said the spokesman. The company operates a contract payment scheme and offers the alternative of charging a quoted rate for each parcel.

The parcels fleet is being built on the conventional Security Express lines, using 22cwt Ford Transit vans: traffic is confined to 28Ib parcels. For the trunk service the company employs two vehicles of 2 tons carrying capacity. These are understood to be the lightest trunk vehicles in use in this country.
