nETAILS. of two competitions—one for essays and the other for drawings— were annouticed this week. The eSsay competition is a new venture by the Institute of the Motor Industry aimed at encouraging-the study of oil engines and their maintenance.
Technical :college students are being invited to compete for two cash prizes totalling £26 5s. by writing on "The Servicing of Diesel Fuel Pumps and Injectors." Leslie Hartridge, Ltd., who have donated the awards, will invite the successful contestants to tour their works.
The Institute of British Carriage and Automobile Manufacturers are seeking drawings of a one-man operated singledeck bus for their 1959 competition. They envisage a vehicle to operate from ring car parks to the city centre.
Three prizes are offered, one of £90, one of £50, and the other £30. Winners will also receive a medal and certificate, and the competitor gaining first prize will be offered a trip to a Continental motor show with all expenses paid.
