Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'Peter's bnpression: Although the cut-off point for this section of the test is 3,500kg, the pair of Sprinters carried 4x4 badges. The first example is actually a single cab 4.6-tanner down-plated to 3,500kg. This is Merc's somewhat convoluted way of providing twin rear wheels. Inside is a conservative layout, with enough storage and room to make it a relaxed experience. On the road, the modest power produced remarkably good performance, although the Sprinter's traditional long-travel brake pedal still doesn't feel right.

The second Sprinter does weigh in at 4,600kg GVW as indicated by its 413 badging. In van form the Sprinter has been one of those rare examples that has managed to grow old gracefully. Ifs been subtly updated throughout its life to stay with the pack. But this doesn't always translate into a decent chassis-cabitipper. Coming in double cab form with room for four passengers, this particular example was a bit special thanks to the inclusion of optional 4x4 for those that work on more rugged terrain. The 4x4 versions are available on all diesel Sprinters, apart from the lowest powered.

What has always stood out with the Sprinter is its ease of driving, even the big versions, and this one was no exception. Steering is light and direct with the transmission and engine working together allowing decent progress. The soundproofing lacks the depth of the Movano and the engine can resonate through the cabin at revs. However, the chassis is more than capable of dealing with the Tipmaster body and when fully laden displays no signs of stress on the road.

Access to the rear cab is via a single side door and hopping in and out is fuss free. Though set to be replaced in the near future the Sprinter is still a capable product and with the combination of double-cab and 4x4 offers something different when compared to the competition albeit at a stiff price.
