In May Commercial Motor took an in depth look at the heavy tippers on the market. Now it's the turn of their lighter cousins as we turn our attention to the 3.5 and 7.5 tonne sectors.

We kick off our two-part analysis in the tachograph-free world of the 3.5-tonner. One growing trend in recent years has been the move towards manufacturers sourcing the most popular bodywork for a "one-stop" product, normally available from stock.Their buying power usually means a better deal for the buyer, as long as the spec offered meets your needs. If you have more specialist needs, there are a whole host of independant bodybuilders vying for your order, and we've looked at both sources.
