_ogistics specialist DHL has won a British Gypsum plasterboard :ontract from a local operator. Sally Nash reports.

3RITISH GYPSUM has snubbed me of its long-standing hauliers in avour of global freight giant DHL 7reight & Contract Logistics.

For the past five years the multinillion-pound plasterboard haulige contract from British Gypsum's ite in East Leake, Leics has been iandled by Fergusons, based in 3lyth, Northumberland.

DHL won the deal after a iercely fought tendering process nvolving several of the UK's leadng logistics companies.

Major expansion is planned for 'last Leake with a new plaster plant opening late in 2006. This is the largest of British Gypsum's five sites; East Leake is already home to two of Europe's largest plasterboard lines.

This contract is DHL's second major deal with British Gypsum — in June 2004 it secured the distribution contract for the Barrow upon Soar plaster plant.

British Gypsum supply chain director Craig Chambers hopes DHL's appointment will improve service levels and keep up with the pace of expansion at East Leake.

Fergusons declines to comment.
